Assos
was a main departure point for voyages to Rome during Paul’s missionary journeys.
Today, remains of the ancient Aolian city include the temple of Athena, a bronze
age acropolis, and 2500 year-old city walls. All are perched on a cliff above
the idyllic fishing village of Behramkale on the North Aegean Sea, allowing
unspoiled vistas of Lesbos across the bay.
