First built in 5 AD above the tomb of St. Nicholas “the inspiration for Santa Claus”, the Church of St. Nicholas was rebuilt in 7 AD due to Arab raids and a monastery was added in 10 AD. The spectacular site is ranked as one of Anatolia’s most important Byzantine structures.
